Million thanks cartzar! I am going buy a GTE swap this week, still contemplating between VVTI and NON-VVTI (2195 shipped vs 3150 shipped).

This will be my first time doing the wiring myself (last swap had tweak harness), I am just concern about later down the road running an AEM V2. As research revealed, AEM V2 cannot control the DBW so most ppl have to switch out that throttle body to a cable one and found a way to mount the IACV.

I have a 97 as well, did you need to solder the resistor on the gauge cluster for the tach to work? I also read somewhere that the temp sensor has to be install on the waterneck, can you chime in on the difficulty on this swap vs a NON VVTI?

Thanks.

yes the gauge cluster needs to have a resistor on the back jumped. for 1997 cars resistor R2 needs to be jumped. here is a pic of which resistor im talking about

So were you able to keep trac control with this set up?
Do you guys know which set-up is the best for 97 sc 300 auto?
I have 99% of the R154 swap stuff (only missing about 20 buck worth of screws)
But not sure which motor set-up is the best (cheapest/easiest to build on)
2jzgte vvti or 1jzgte vvti? The 2jzgte non vvti is a bit of a stretch for me!!!

Kingblack, I had a 1jz swap before. It made great power but if I would have do it over again (which I am now) I would probably stick to the 2jz. I am leaning toward buying a VVTI and just swap the intake manifold/runner and wire the IACV to get rid of the DBW and run my AEM v2. From what I read on SF, the VVTI head does make a different in lower end band (if anyone would chime in) for street driving, which is what I plan to do with my car running a 6466. I got most of my stuff for a 350z trans swap also. Just waiting for my refin to go thru before I buy my motor.

Thanks for the input Ross3857. I see alot of members with 92-97 doing the 2jz non vvti swap but thats twice the price of the 2jz vvti. I was just wondering how harder it would be to swap in a vvti 2jz in my 97 and keep all the features i have now. But if the the 2jz non vvti is the best (easier ) road to go then I'll just get one of those and keep saving for the other stuff i need.

You keep mentioning having EXACTLY the same amperage fuses as what came stock. If you are not using the same will it prevent it from starting? I am trying to start a VVTI on an engine stand and it is not firing.

I have BATT, B2, +B, IGSW, +BM, and STA(when starting), hooked up to positive, plus grounded the block.

Thanks.

Dude, kick *** thread. I have a 97 SC300 just like you (along with a 6 speed Supra). I am basically trying to figure out the best way to do this. Here for info. I'm in the same boat as you. I have a pre-98 SC300 auto, and would like to basically transplant the Aristo engine and trans into the car just like you. I assume the 97 SC300 ECU won't be able to control the Aristo trans.

So is your car running yet?

Now, is your 97 SC300 an Auto? Are you planning on using the Aristo Auto?

I just may have to post a build thread in due time. :-)
