Default third time replacing fuel pump this year

earlier this year, roughly april if im not mistaken, i replaced my fuel pump that had lasted me 3 or so years.
that fuel pump lasted me until 2 weeks ago when my fuel pump wouldnt turn on, seeing as i had bought an autozone one, i replaced it for free, got to love that life time warranty
about a week past (so last week), it wouldnt turn on again, and i turned around and tapped on the plate (i dont have rear seats) and it started up again, i dont know if tapping on it did anything but it sure seemed like it did.
EDIT: there has been a few times, i couldnt hear the pump turn on, and all i did was turn my keys from off to on a few times and it started (which makes me think, its possibly the fuel pump ecu)
today, i had no problems until it just shut off mid drive home and i had to wait for a tow-truck to get me. im not sure why its eating up pumps like it is, any ideas?
inside the fuel tank, there is some strange wiring going on with it, 2 wires inside are cut and have male-female connectors holding it together, does anybody else have this inside their tank? i know i didnt do that, and im not sure if this is the "fuel pump ecu bypass" the previous owner was an young guy who said his girlfriend drove it, so i doubt she did anything to it either.
tomorrow when its bright and not cold out, ill try to get a picture of the wiring, if this isnt a stock feature.

I would definitely investigate that wiring. The fuel pump ecu bypass should take place at the ecu itself behind the left rear seat side trim panel, not in the tank. I don't recall seeing any such connectors when I took my pump out, although I also wasn't specifically looking for that.

You're seeing the red and black stripes of the same wire. Look closer at the consecutive pictures... Five wires in one pic and three uncut ones in the next.

so today i went to do the ecu bypass, turns out, its already been done!

heres pictures to the male/female connectors inside the fuel tank, looks like they have something to do with the float and fuel gauge (which doesnt read 100% properly)

I read several posts on this topic and there seems to be a "split camp" on the fuel pump ECU bypass.

One camp says the fuel pump ECU is not needed while another one claims the bypass means the pump is on continuously shortening the life of the pump.

I have no preference but my original '92 fuel pump and ECU are still working with 196K miles plus so far.

I was also on the fence about the fuel pump ECU bypass, but I finally did it permanently after the temporary bypass (diagnostics box jumpering) addressed my long-crank start-up issue to my satisfaction. Like Duck05, there were no obvious signs of the pump ECU failing, although I haven't had any more of the start-stall behavior that came and went for awhile. I did so many things, it's tough to say for sure what contributed and what didn't, but it seems at least likely that the pump ECU was somehow to blame.

I would try to clean up that wiring some.
only use enough wire, solder the joints, don't use the butt connectors for joints.

those wires look horrible, that is probably part of the problem. that red wire crimped to the grey wire half the wire is like broken off and its possibly the worst connection in a fuel tank ever. I would fix it even if its not related.
