Default '93 sc300 transmission fluid

Hey guys! I just purchased a 1993 sc300 and i believe the trans fluid needs to be replaced. When me and my friend looked at it, it was a dark brown and kind of smelled burnt. So i've done research and decided to not get a flush but instead will just have the pan dropped, trans drained, filter replaced, and new fluid put in. I've found that i need to use Type 4 toyota trans fluid. So is there anything i should look for when it gets replaced? How many quarts do i need? I'm kind of skeptical getting it replaced from alot of things i've read. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!
