Buddy of mine has a92 sc400 the forward gears work fine but it won't go into reverse. Is this something simple or is it toast? He wants to fix it for his daughter but if it requires $2k for repaird hell just dump it... Any ideas?

sounds like one of the solenoids responsible for reverse has gone out. you might have to take them off to see which ones broken or just get good used or new replacements for them all. New they are pretty expensive but should be easy to find some good used ones.

Solenoids aren't too hard, definitely not a 2k job for somebody else to do, and most definitely not worth trashing the SC over.
