Default SC300 Power Steering Pump Screen

Anyone ever seen where the screen in the power steering pump goes bad? Mine has ripped and I can see traces in the fluid. I was wondering if anyone has just completely removed it and just ran with out it? Also if you have a slight whine in you power steering pump will a rebuild clean that up?

thanks

moved to maintenance section.
screen will just stop large particles from going through the system and messing things up.
I have had ones with rips, some with holes pokes through, some normal, doesn't seem to matter as long as your fluid is clean. if something gets in there or breaks off then the screen should catch it even if its ripped leave it in there unless you think its so bad that the screen itself will go through then pull it out.

slight whine a rebuild can clean that up, or go for a re manufactured unit the rebuild can be a little tricky with a the snap rings and whotnot, I haven't done it just seen the kit and it turned me off from doing it.

try topping it off first, get the wheels off the ground and turn it back and forth alot of times, try to get all the air out, if its still whining after that and a few drives then it is probably the pump.
