Default how many quarts of oil for automatic 1jz transmission?

When i drained it it wasnt very much maby 2 quarts or so. And ive looked looked online and ive seen it say 8.4 quarts for it? Is it true? Thats seems like alot though.

I called toyota and they say the 2jzgte and 2jzgte take 1.7 quarts? I believe it would be the same for the 1j.

How many quarts is it? Lmk so i can purchase some

Thanks

Per this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/mai...992-sc400.html

The transmission holds 11-12 quarts of ATF, only 2-3 quarts drain out, the rest is still inside the valve body, torque converter, ect. Look in your owners manual to know the exact amount. If overfilled, the main tranny seal will burst and then you gotta replace it...under fill it and the trans will slip, Automatic Trannys can be really picky.

Dam how do you think i should go about it? I already drained the tranny and its of the motor right now.
When its bolted back on should i wait til when the motor is in to fill it up? And just add a quart or half a quart at a time til its full?

Also will a tranny oil filter n oil pan gasket set for a 2jzge work on the 1j tranny?

I am not sure what you're asking...Your transmission is auto, right?

Yes sir, should i add the 3 quarts to the tranny before i put it back on the car or after? After that i simply just add oil slowly till full so i do not overfill it? And should the car be on when adding oil?

Im sorry ive never had to fill up a empty tranny before, ive only drained the 2ish quarts out of the pan and refilled it before.

And about the transmission oil filter and im not sure if theres a gasket for the oil pan on the tranny or if i just use silicon. But im asking if the 2jz tranny oil filter will fit on the 1jz automatic incase if i wana swap in a new filter

Ok, so 11-12 quarts would be the SC400. You have the SC300, so it will be 8.2 quarts total. Here is a picture straight out of the manual.
