Could be alternator overcharging the battery...

Could possibly be a bad cell inside the battery and the alternator is overcompensating trying to charge it...sounds like something overheated...

dafuq? i had to read twice to make sure i didn't miss something. bad starter explains the starting on its own thing but smoke and bubbling battery. crazy stuff haha.

Yea the white smoke was coming from a seal in the starter it got to a point where the seal on the starter melted and created a bigger cloud of smoke

...Very interesting fix. But, whatever works, I guess.
