As many of you know I'm trying to fix this botched up car by the previous owner. My wife recently let me know that my taillights are not lighting up. However, my brake lights are fine. I suspected the fuse to be blown and as I checked the kick panel, I saw the previous owner wrapped a wire around the fuse and simply plugged it in (did not use a fuse tap). I pulled the fuse and noticed it was blown. I didn't know what the wrapped wire was feeding but I decided to unwrap it off and just seal it with electrical tape. I put in a new fuse, and the fuse still blew. My question, what else could cause the fuse to blow? Thankfully, the rear lights don't seem to have been messed with. I think the wrapped wire was used to power something and cannot contribute to why I keep blowing the fuses... any ideas?

Thanks
Jeremy

I was hoping it was a common problem but nope electrical problems are typically not a Toyota trait!

Ok I thought I had just a bad fuse. Replaced it and seemed to be working.... I think I blow the fuse when the car is off and the headlights are in the on position and I turn on the car.... You guys think it's a bad relay? I'm trying to find the writing diagram to this thing. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Help. Does anyone have pics of a pre 97 taillights lit up at night? I can't figure out this fuse thing, but when my taillights worked, I noticed I only had two lit lights (one per taillight housing), IDK if this is normal. searching on youtube yields no results. If more lights are supposed to light up, I may have a short in one of those taiilight sockets. I'm going nuts and about to pull my hair out!

Also, does anyone know what else is run by the taillight fuse? Previous owner jimmy rigged HIDs.... My headlights work, but my side markers don't, my fogs are disconnected (trying to undo his hack of HID install) but all taped up.... Can anyone help?

Thanks
Jeremy

my taillight fuse would blow on me from time to time. i found my problem in the harness connector. it got hot and melted the housing. i had to replace the termanil and the housing. this is the part of the harness that goes under the drivers side rear wheel trunk mat. i think that its the same place as the car phone amp by the jack mount. not sure if this helps much. good luck.
