Default Steering Pump Removal Dilemma

Hey fellas, I'm currently in the process of removing the power steering pump to be rebuilt, problem is I'm having no luck whatsoever removing the bolt holding the high pressure hose to the pump as pictured. I knew it required force but man, this thing won't even budge. Have soaked it in WD-40 & left for a day or two then went at it again with the ring spanner & a hollow metal bar & STILL nothing. However, the nut above has now loosened meaning I'm using two spanners & two sets of hands now for the job. Making it that much more of a PITA haha.

So to anyone else out there who has encountered this problem before loosening this bolt that hasn't been touched in 20+ years & found a good way to get it off with enough force, I'm keen to hear your solution. Because it ain't working for me!

Picture borrowed from http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/steer...mpremoval.html

Cheers

I would not try to use a pry bar again. I would be afraid you break it or worse, you break the head off, then it makes matters worse. Can you get an impact in there somehow? Maybe it needs just a quick second of some raw force of the impact. Although in some cases, impacts makes matters worse also.. I would use PB blaster or Liquid Wrench for old rusty nuts and bolts. They both work pretty good, but PB blaster works a bit better.

That was also on my mind. And unfortunately no there's no room for a socket & ratchet let alone an impact either which doesn't help. May go give the PB blaster a shot then if I can find it locally in Melbourne. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes sir. Sorry I wasn't much help.. I remember when I removed the feed line for fuel to the motor.. Took me almost an hour to break it loose.. What a long extension and a swivel on an impact from the bottom of the car?

tighten the top nut back. i think 24mm. i think i was able to fit a snap on breaker bar to break the PS nut off. leverage is your friend!

Get new washers when you re-install.

Usually just swing a hammer on the end of the wrench eventually the wrench would move and you have loosened the bolt

All good! It's appreciated anyway. Couple pics below show just how close to the body & the angle that the bolt is on, son of a *****!

Thanks for the heads up on the washers. How did you manage to fit the breaker bar socket on with next to no room?

This is what I first attempted with no luck either unfortunately. I'm going to need to find a good penetrative oil & then that method should work a charm.

hmm. try putting a wrench on both nut/bolt then use a pry bar as leverage to break them loose.

remove the pump from the engine lower the pump below the car then remove the banjo bolt or you can remove 3 of the 4 mounting bolts and twist the pump up for enough space to use a socket... breaker bar or air gun is fine

Hey mate you can try a bigger hammer, the nail hammer does not have enough, use a deadblow type 2-3 lbs

Cheers guys for all the helpful quick responses, appreciate it! We finally loosened the nut yesterday with the help of an extra pry bar, even then it still took some decent force but the job got done. Now to finish fitting the pump seal kit, new alternator & good to go again!
