Default Hayden 677 Transmission Cooler Installed

Just wanted to share my install of the Hayden 677 Tranny Cooler.

It measures 11"x7.5"x5.5" with 3/8" fittings on both end which is the same size as the ones coming from the tranny.

Really nice sturdy design and it comes with supplied hose, clamps and special zip ties. The way this mounts to the condenser makes it really easy to install, you just use 4 supplied straight zip ties to sandwich the cooler to the condenser.

The supplied hose is just long enough to mount it as long as you mount it on the passenger side where the fan is. This is also a good spot to mount it because you will get better suction from the fan while at idle.

I do not know how much this has lowered my fluid temps, but the car doesn't drive or shift any different.

Very cool. I've always been curious about trans coolers. I'm sure it makes a bit of a difference. How long was the install?

I replaced my radiator, lower hose and added this cooler at the same time, so I cannot really say how long it took for just the cooler. But for someone to just do the cooler, I can see it be done in about 1 hour or less since you do not have to jack the car up to get this job done, just need to take off the front splash shield, to install cooler and when it comes to connecting the hoses, taking off the fan shroud and fan makes it a lot easier.

Default Upgraded hoses

The way how I had it installed is not a good idea for a lowered car since the hoses were vulnerable to getting hit or pierced.

I bought 4 feet of 3/8" steel tubing from NAPA and had the tubing routed so that it does not go below the radiator support. A hole was drilled on the passenger side of the support to route the tubing through and leads back to the factory transmission lines. This the correct way of installing a transmission cooler.

Cant remember, have you swapped your car to a 5spd? Or is this going on the stock auto? And you're also a '99 sc400 right?

I still have a stock automatic transmission. The radiator I have is a 5spd Supra radiator which doesn't have an integrated transmission cooler. My car is a 1998 SC300.

Hello, sorry to revive an old thread, but do I really need a transmission cooler? Thanks in advance!
