Default Why want SC300 turnover?????

Ok as some of you may have read on an earlier post Im looking at buying a 92 SC300.

The guy said the reason it wouldn't start was because it needed an ECU he also said it only had a 135k miles. Anyways today I go to buy the car and took a new battery and an ECU out of a buddy of mines car that was working. So I get the ECU plugged in and turn the key and the first thing I notice is it has 176k miles on it and then the engine want even spin.... Nothing... He was asking 1000 for it which would have been a good deal with the amount of work I would have to do to the interior but without it even turning over it wasn't worth it to me so I told the guy to call me back when he got it turn over. I did notice the key I was trying to start it with was broken and just had the metal part but even if the 92s are chipped keys wouldn't it still turn over???? Any ideas I would appreciate it.

moved to maintenance. To answer one of your questions, just the metal part of the key would work. The chip inside is to remotely open doors

So he said it had 135k, but it really has 176k? Sounds like somebody not to be trusted. It IS 5 speed though... Sounds like an ignition problem...the key bare should work, like jadu said.

Yes its a 5spd which is the only reason I was overlooking the interior and condition. $1,000 was a good deal considering the condition but with it not turning over Im not willing to spend that amount even for a 5spd.

if the starter will click but engine wont turn over there isnt a circuit making it to the engine. check the battery terminals for heavy corrosion, take them off and use something like a wire brush to clean em.
if the terminals are clean, it could just be an ecu and in cali there is a person who rebuilds them (posting on craigslist all the time) and it COULD be worth it.
if its not the terminals though, i probably wouldnt mess with it personally. too much of a possible head ache and money pit to start from imo.

Turns out it was a simple solution. Buddy of mine figured out it was the ground we were getting. Engine turned over and cranked right away after sitting for seven months. Meeting the guy on Monday to change the title over and buying it for 1,000!!!!
