Thanks for the advice everyone. I plan on getting headers at some point but I wasn't sure if I would absolutely need to re-install the cats when I get them. I'm not so worried about gains or losses since I never really race my SC and I'm sure the gain wouldn't be big enough to be noticeable anyways. With all this being said, how do these take to aftermarket intakes? I've found a short ram intake but is there any CAI's out there? Thanks again.

I was gonna jump all over this thread but some already beat me to it. back pressure is bad, always bad. However so is too much exhaust dia in terms of velocity. you want to find the happy medium between too restrictive which creates back pressure and too open of an exhaust which causes turbulance and scavenging issues also taking away from the power band. A good rule of thumb is 2.25" per bank up to 275hp and 2.5 up to 325hp, then 3" past that.
I would stay clear of a short ram intake. you can get more benefit from a BFI at no additional cost. I also recommend you make your own "true" CAI from 2.5" piping and have a shop weld the MAF tube on there. |
