Default question on mbc and hks style wastegate

ok, so yesterday i tried to hook up an mbc to raise my boost a little bit from 6 psi to 12 psi but i could not get the boost to raise...i think i was hooking up the mbc incorrectly. can anyone tell me how to hook up an mbc on an hks style wastegate? what i did is i ran a line from boost source to mbc and then another line from the mbc to the side of the wastegate....am i supposed to run a line to the top of the wastegate too so that air is pushing down on the spring to allow it not to open? thxs, here is the boost controller i was using and wastegate:

this is basically how i had it hooked up...nothing to the top of the wastegate. i feel like this way is incorrect as nothing was happening when i adjusted the mbc

i found this diagram and i believe this is the correct way to do it...plz chime in
