I've always been curious to see stock 2jzgte timing tables referenced vs pressure/rpm to compare to 1j timing tables as I've always thought the 2j is a little less aggressive than a 1j due to stroke.
fwiw I never got this to work on my jzx100 ecu, but I didn't give it much try. I should try this on an obd1 1fz, maybe my gf's jzx90 ecu if it warms up some outside.

may have had to do with how new that ecu is isn't that standard JOBD on the vvti ecu's?
I will let you guys know how it goes if I can get it to work I will take some good logs.
heres my version of the cable, had to use 2x .0044uf caps in series to equal a .0022uf or 2.2nf capacitor since radioshack didnt have any other values in the 1.1-3.3 nf range; so keep in mind that using 2 equal capacitors in series will half the capacitance when you go shopping or just order the exact one online is probably easier but def not faster.
Cut the end of one side of the standard serial cable
5 and 6 are the colors listed below mainly green and blue are the ones you want to use
Here remember I had to use 2 capacitors to make the 1 right value capacitor.
if you have the right value cap there will just be the one cap between the blue and green wires.
Done, hope it works.
Hard to see but I also soldered the tips of these 3 wires so they are easier to stick into the diag connectors

Does this work for my Avensis 1999 2.0 TD
I have DLC3 connector and it would be great if there could connect this to it. My Avensis does't use OBD2 and I need another way to get data from it.

just confirmed, it does work on a 1JZ vvti i plugged the pins straight into the ecu because the DLC connector in the engine bay is missing the TE2 connector
if anyone else has a well working 1JZ vvti please let me know i would like to compare cold start output and default parameters to see why mine runs rich as a pig.

I built the cable and installed the english version of the program but it still wont give me a list of the "ports" up in the top left hand corner. Just noticed my diagnostic box does look a tad bit different. Im not even sure if theres one under the dash.. any help with this would be awesome.

if you don't see a list of ports in the program then your computer is not recognizing whatever com port it has or the USB to COM port adapter. check device manager. the program really doesn't have any indication that it is 'connected' to the ECU, as it is a one way serial stream that the ECU spits out and all you are doing is parsing it through the COM port adapter and this program.

Yea so I found what was wrong..
Did some research and found this here;

Under this photo it states:
" The Toyota test mode is a 'more sensitive' mode entered by connecting terminals TE2 and E1. If TE2 is not in the diagnostic connector there is no test mode.
TE2 will be labelled under cap if pertinent."
So now i have a completely useless, expensive cable taking up space in my garage..lol

Just randomly stumbled across this thread. I have been thinking of a way to view the ECU's parameters somehow the other day and scratching my head as to why there isn't any datalogging software available. Well viola! So are there any success stories of people using this with tuning and finding knock? Seems like the main barrier people are running into is making the cable and getting it to connect / log properly.

I haven't had a boosted 2j in a few years, but the program shows no knock on a na 2jzge running 91 octane at 7 degrees btdc.
It's refresh rate isn't great, but if you started out with low boost and made a pull that might have knocked but either it was so feint or the program didn't display it fast enough, you'd still have a good safety cushion. either way this program is totally crucial to make a good running toyota engine within the margins of safe tuning.
