Differences between 1jz soarer and sc400 a340E transmission

Looking for a little advice,

Do different models of the a340E, like one out of a 1jz soarer bolt right up to a 1uz in an sc400, or is there other modifications that need to be done?

I searched, but couldn't find anything on this, if this is covered in another thread, please let me know.

Thx

I wouldn't bother swapping a 1jz tranny for a SC400 tranny. Unless your doing it because your stock transmission blew. Performance wise and power handling wise it will be the same.

I didn't say anything about performance gains, it's a trans swap to repair a blown trans.

So do you actually know something helpful about this, or just trolling? :)

Nah I know quite a bit about the A340e actually.

To be honest I would just rebuild your blown trans than swap a 1JZ auto. I'm not sure if the 1JZ auto is completely the same as the SC400's have a solenoid to control smooth shift. But this solenoid is not even necessary and can be disconnected.

I take offence to being called a troll. :boxing:

Found this.

Seems like there are issues... would love for a definitive answer.

My best guess is they are not the same or interchangeable. The SC300 and SC400 transmissions are not interchangeable. You can swap the 1JZ auto transmission into an SC300 but not a SC400.

xpsi6 know's his stuff and I would take his word.

Thanks a million for that link........... very interesting.
I'm probably going to pass on this trans then.

Damn Son! ................ Very nice write up on modifying the a340E!!!!

Hey, saw in your sig, that you are running a wet nitrous kit and you did the 4th solenoid mod. What do you think of them?

If I offended you, I guess I did a bad job trying to be funny. :(

No prob wasn't really that offended haha I could tell you were just poking fun.

To be honest I only used a 50 nitrous shot so far lol! Next summer I'll be running 150 progressive, cars going in storage real soon cause winter is coming. Even a 50 shot brings a smile to your face though! 4th solenoid mod is like 5% difference when launching if I could give my seat of pants impression. If hurricane sandy doesnt screw thing up I'll have my car back tomorrow with the transgo shift kit installed which should really increase shift times.

The soarer auto is beefier internally than the early model sc400 trans (92-96?). The vvti sc400's have the a650e and ive never opened one of those up to see the differences.

Think of the soarer transmission as a supra 2JZ-GTE transmission with a manual valve body. It has an extra set of clutch packs to handle the extra power.

There are 2-3 main differences physically

1. the tailshaft - The sc400 has a 3 bolt flange whereas the soarer has a slip-yolk
the fix: find a driveshaft from an sc300

2. A/T pattern select switch plug - this is the big main plug on the trans. The connectors have the same pins but the plug housing may be a different shape
the fix: swap the plug and arrange pins properly

3. bellhousing - IM not 100% on this but the bell housing i assume is a different bolt pattern for the 1uz vs 2jz
the fix: swap bell housings from sc400 trans to soarer trans

edit:
4. the dipstick tube is probably in a different location
fix: swap pans

it can be done and IMO probably worth it if your looking at a 400whp mark since a soarer trans can be picked up for $200-300

thx 93 MSB and clean400, still thinking about this

I say do it ;) jk but I guess you can use the bellhousing from your old tranny and all of the plugs. Just need a driveshaft which I might have since I'm swapping over to a R154. I think I might need an SC400 shaft

I gotta talk to me boy who specializes in transmissions. Not sure if this is worth it.
