hey guys,

Well, I lucked out. I got a closer look, as I noticed some broken plastic fragments near the distributor.... ALL of my problems could be attributed to a failed rotor, believe it or not. it must have instantaneously exploded to pieces because it was almost entirely missing. I suppose that is why it was firing on 4 cylinders .

Only problem now, is a huge crack in the top of my radiator. Other than that it is running great again. Radiator is something I enjoy replacing actually as it is very easy. Maybe I'll do a write up on it with pics.

I replaced my radiator about a year ago, but I never replaced the cap - which is old and most likely not holding enough pressure. That combined with the failed thermostat about 3 months ago (which i just yanked out and threw away, buttoned her back up), is what I attribute that crack to. The radiator had a rough summer.

So this time I will be getting a new cap to go with it.

I do remember it being a tight fit, but do-able even without removing the shroud. Oh I dont know, maybe it really was a PITA but a six pack and decent weather might have made it seem fun??

I will be doing this in about a week. I will take the initiative to take step by step pics and try to make a write up DIY style..

Your welcome, glad you got it working and figured out. Also check out the overflow tank and make sure it isnt cracked or broken. Very common on the 400's. Good luck

started my car (still cranks right up like a beast. love it every time.)

and let it run a few minutes, i found what i BELIEVE to be the coil pack on the driver side. There is a wire coming off it with a small "B" on it. this wire attaches and looks similar to a spark plug, but it isnt. this wire is also wrapped in electrical tape which appears to be factory...

i touched the electrical tape part to move it around, see if i see anything...well i didnt see anything, but i sure as hell FELT something... i got a bit of a shock, nothing too bad but definitely not normal, or is it? did i find the problem area?
Is that the coil pack?
