Yes, your location description is accurate. anyone out there know what that wire is with the "B"?

Why it would have shocked me?

What does that wire come from, and where does it go to?

I think we are getting close!

In the pic, that is FOR SURE your Coil pack. I think the "B" means this coilpack is the "second" coilpack, so "B" is after the coilpack "A".

About the shocking, sounds like you might have a bad or melted Coil harness or wire....or the coils themselves...

I think we might be close as well...

DUDE! I SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC WHEN THIS **** FIRST HAPPENED (same time i saw the sparks)!!!..

whats that saying, " it's ALLLL in the detail"?

guess i should have included the spark and burning plastic smell in my first post, oh well, live and learn.

so what to do now? replace the "B" wire? or the "B" side coil-pack?

thanks for the help guys, we are getting close!!!

(just want to say thanks again and hope we can get this thing fixed, I have been going through a rough time financially, and i was about to spend money i DON'T have to replace the cat-converters... man would i have been depressed after replacing them and starting the car, and still ran like crap)

That wire goes from your coil to the distributor. If it's arching, half of the cylinders are not receiving spark so you're running on 4 cylinders.

our cars in general are so rare (kinda sorta, i have an acura integra as well, so compared to that and civics, ect...) that i dont ever think the junk yard route..

i will, however, get my *** to the local autozone, and buy the part. my budget for this fix before i get paid again is $100, so that puts me in range.

thanks for the help, one last thing.... can i connect the new coil pack to test it without removing the old one and securing in the new one? reason i ask is i have no tools on me, they are at my house. if i could tho, i could just unplug the wire and connect the new one...if not ill just do it tomorrow morning on a break.

i will update with my findings, im sure this thread will help somebody, someday.

so you are saying if its arching, it is BECAUSE the coil pack is no longer functional?

to also say, the alternator is supplying a spark, but said spark cannot go where it needs to to fire the spark plugs, BECUASE of the DISfunctional coil pack?

just trying to understand it all a bit better...

this forum is awesome, once again. THANKS GUYS!

^^^OK, that makes sense with the sparking. So that would be a faulty wire, right V8drummer?

I the problematic part is found soflo99!

BTW< I recently found an SC400 at U pull and pay in ABQ, got my carcass out there as fast as I could, got some really good parts! It had been there for 2 days when I got there, and the motor was just hangin' there, and almost all the expensive parts were gone, including the MAF.

no i know, our cars are such beasts that by the time they actually make it to the junk yard, they gotta be run down prettttttyyyyy good.

yea thats what im now wondering, is it just a bad connection and or faulty wire "B", or the pack itself? or any other part in the vicinity...??

ill be leaving work soon, but downloading an app for my phone (is there a club lexus app?) and at the very least following from my phone's internet, so keep the ideas coming...

The driver side coil is usually the one that fails first due to the excess heat in that area, but in your case it just seems the wire is damaged. The coil failing wouldn't have anything to do with the wire arching.

I would replace the wire and go from there.

That will destroy the cats.
