Default Putting a distributor back in

hi my name is mike im new to the forums, i decided to turn to the forums for help with my distributor, i took it out to replace a few parts on it, but when i did that i did no realize i had to have the striker stopped at the right spot, what do i do and how can i put it back in with out damaging my engine too much
