Good question. I haven't crossed that bridge yet. My thoughts were to try and get my hands on a stock 350z mount, start with it and modify it as needed, or make an adapter plate, to use the stock SC300 mounting holes.

Sorry to jump in here out of nowhere but been reading this thread a while ago....

DONE this - and can share some info

i've made a custom billet alu flywheel for a Skyline clutch setup ( RB25DET push type )
10mm adapter plate

all works more than fine - love the way the gearbox works - and with a 1JZ, with GT35 turbine - is AWESOME

some pics - it is the first one - so the adapter looks like crap

That is not a Collins Performance adapter plate. that one doesn't look like it would function on anything.. and for 3/8" what kind of factor of safety can you guarantee with that?? That adapter doesn't look safe.

The flywheel looks pretty bad *** though!

could you show us a picture of the transmission bolted up??

Airfed, all my hardward is all over the garage right now. I'll get you that info once I get to putting the starter on

Here's a breakdown of my expenses and everything so far, might be helpful:

I opted to get his kit with the flywheel adapter rather than the custom flywheel / clutch he offers. That way I can use any 350z flywheel and clutch combo off the shelf, from any vendor I choose.

Swap kit w/ pilot bearing from Collins ($455):

Flywheel adapter from Collins ($250):

Used 350z JWT flywheel off a 350z forum ($175 shipped) (note: replacement surfaces are only $30):

New friction disc for above mentioned flywheel from MAPerformance ($30)

Stock Auto SC300 flex plate from member 97-SC300 ($57 shipped)

350Z JWT heavy duty clutch with metallic disc from VTR ($500):

Here's my CD009 w/ 47k miles from local junk yard ($750 shipped)

Shifter bracket to shorten it up to better fit our car from egay ($225) (I later found out Collins will modify the stocker for around $100, would have been the cheaper route to go, oh well).

350z Clutch slave cylinder from Autozone ($30)

240sx clutch line from egay ($23)

Trans mount from Collins w/ 240sx dampener ($200)

Driveshaft from Collins ($425)

Driveshaft Adapter from Drift Motion ($150)

Total cost thus far $3250

Couple things worth mentioning that may not be on peoples radar right away when considering this swap, and are still open items for me to figure out:

1) Will need a custom driveshaft made. The slip yoke is apparently the same as a Nissan Titan 2x4. So you could bastardize one of those from a junkyard, or any driveshaft shop can get just the yoke.

2) There is no speed sensor in the trans. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet, but for now I am just going to use the speedometer app on my phone, lol.

3) Even with that shortend shifter piece I bought, the shifter is going to be about 5" further back than stock. Not sure yet if that means I'll have to enlarge the hole, modify the interior trim, etc.

4) Have to make some sort of custom trans mount.

I just had my bellhousing for my z33 milled down 5/8" (same width as the adapter plate) how wide is that flywheel spacer and where did you buy it? thanks

EDIT: flywheel spacer is what i meant to say....

Nice to see your parts coming in Halon

From the way im looking at it the shifter is going to have to be S shaped similar to something like a b series honda shifter. It needs to come out of the shifter housing and immediately start going forward and make a turn upwards in the correct spot that it should be in.

On the is300 you can wire the speed sensor to the abs speed pickup so that shouldn't be a problem here since its the main way to do it with a is300 to v160/161.

Collins has that 350z slip yoke but its about the same price as buying a entire titan driveshaft haha.

Im going to go with Collins setup because from the way hes explained it to me he's worked all of the bugs with correct fitting and sizing of all the parts. He said a replacement disk and pressure plate is $285 and you can always take it to a custom clutch place if he gets famous or rich and says the hell with this kit lol.

Im SOL on the driveshaft and Im going to have to tow the car to the driveshaft shop of which they quoted me up to $300 "if" they have to use alot of their steel but I picked up a IS300 driveshaft on ebay for $45 and collins 350z yoke at $145 so It should be less than the quoted $300. It would be nice if someone already had a IS with this tranny with driveshaft and length specification, it would save a tow bill.

My cd009 (2006 G35 80K) was $420 + $100 to ship to RL carriers pickup spot. Transmission is way lighter than it looks by the way.

Damn nice price on the trans, where'd you find it? Also what clutch did you get? I wanted the one that could hold 600+tq, but it was an extra 1k (no thanks). Ended up with my JWT clutch setup rated for similar numbers for $500 shipped.

I'm also going to be towing my car to a local driveshaft shop. That way they can't blame any sort of measurements, just give them the car and let them just do it and be done.

My car no longer has operable ABS. The rear sensors are gone, and the fuse box gone. I'm assuming there are still front sensors, but no idea if the signals are making it anywhere with the fuse box gone.

I also just ordered up a 350z trans mount and bracket off egay for cheap. Thinking I'll probably use that, and modify it to reach the stock chassis bolt holes.

I got the trans off ebay from from a used parts vendor. Im wondering if the shifter can just be mounted on this first U joint instead of the second? Its only 90° out.

Patiently waiting for someone to actually get one of these things on the ground and driving around, if not with some heavy abuse.

I'm leaning more towards the adapter for the 350Z flywheel but if it can't handle harsh abuse and constant high RPM that will be a big problem for me. Halon have you figured out the starter engagement issue (or lack of an issue) while using the adapter? Have you/are you going to have the transmission bellhousing milled down?

I'm still probably 3 months away from starting this car, so I hope nobody is holding their breath waiting on me.

What starter issue are you referring to exactly? The starter will engage the stock flexplate, I don't think there will be any issue.
