Can it be done? I would asume the ECU would have to be reprogrammed, and an ecu for the transmission as well. Could the manumatic steering wheel be incorporated? Has this been done? It's just a thought I want to discuss...

Its really funny you mention this now. I actually swapped an a650e (5spd) into my 93 SC400 last weekend. I used the transmission and ecu out of a 2002 IS300. The bellhousing from the stock a340 literally bolts right on. I also the transmission to an IS250 steering wheel with paddle shiffters using a microcontroller that I built myself. As for the ecu and full auto mode, I pretty much just piggybacked the IS300 ecu off of my stock ecu. Its actually really easy.

I'll try to post a DIY write-up sometime next week.

Where did you hear that and are you talking about the 6spd or th.e 5spd?
The 5spd (a650e) is the same trans that is used in the IS300, 98+ LS400, SC400, GS
400, LS430, GS430 and SC430.

Last time I checked the a650e is a damn good transmission.

How did you do the microcontroller part? Was the wiring pretty easy for piggybacking the ECUs?

Aside from the DIY you mentioned, how is the driveability of the car changed? What's the difference in gear ratios, and have you received a performance increase because of it?

Interesting...

Any updates MattStarr? Did you use the torque convertor from your SC or from the IS300?

Quick Reply: 5 or 6 speed automatic from newer SC400/430's?
