Default is this the harmonic balancer problem?

Hello all,

Well, this sounds like a rattling exhaust to me. But it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. I've done a lot of searching and have heard of people having similar instances but can not find an audio/video clip to pair it up so here is mines.

Let me know if any of you have gone through the same thing and if it is indeed the harmonic balancer? Like I said above, it sounds like a rattling exhaust or a dash trim (I checked and it's not these) and it happens in the low-mid rpm range like 2.5-3.5k rpms.

In the clip, it happens slighty at 5 and 10 seconds; then from 14 seconds until the end of the clip. Thanks.

Hmm man that does sound kind of weird. The audio quality is so bad though... Still hard to make out, should make a real hq video with good audio then resubmit it.

Have you had the harmonic balancer issue before and did you replace it? If so, what did it sound like?

I will try to get a better sound clip but this is the best one I was able to come up with, with over 20 or so recordings.

It seems like when the engine is under load in those rpm ranges, the rattle starts until the engine shifts into the next gear. I don't have the issue when the car starts or anything. I don't feel a lost of power or anything when I hear this.

I'm not sure how else to record a better audio clip with my current equipment. Ideas? I did this without my stereo unit and placed the recorder in there as it's as close to the source I was able to get.

Bump.

So is this something that is common or what should I be listening for? For those that have had it, how did yours sound like and when did it occur?

Any other ideas as to what it could be?

I have tried for the most part of my day today to record a better clip and I couldn't. If I go any faster, the engine sound muffles the rattle.
