Default troube setting the timing????

So I just did a motor swap put every thing back together and found out the timings off. So I took every thing back off now im back down to the crank bolt and the cams I set the cams on the groove marks and now im trying to set the crank at the zero mark, so the cams are alinged now I go and try to spin the crank with the tensior off so the cams dont spin . and I cant get the crank to go clock wise it seems like a pistion is hitting the head and not allowing me to spin it. Would I wanna put the tensior back on ,spin the crank set the crank at zero then set the cams im at a lost and dont wanna mess any thing up help would be much app it thank you very much if it mattrers its a 99 sc300 with a 01 is300 motor
