Can anyone confirm me if this is a R154 or a W58 Tranny?

Default Can anyone confirm me if this is a R154 or a W58 Tranny?

My friend with a shop had this tranny laying around and i'm looking to purchase it from him couple of people told me it's an R154, if so do i have to switch the bell housing that's attached to it now to be able to bolt it up to a 1J or 2J? Thanks

r154 from a mkiii supra, depending on what motor you are trying to bolt the tranny to, yes u will have to change the bell housing...if bolting this to a 1jzgte or a 2jzgte you will need the jz to r154 bell housing...

Check driftmotion.com they sell them brand new

I'm 99.9999% sure it's not an R154, as it's not like any r154 I've seen. I've seen all the MKIII Supra versions, and all the Soarer versions.

I can for 100% sure tell you what it's NOT:
It's NOT an R154 from a Supra or Soarer
It's NOT a W58 from a MKII, MKIII, MKIV, or an SC300

It looks like a W56 from a 2WD toyota pickup

The "starter" location appears to be on the passenger side:

MKII, MKIII, MKIV, Soarer, Aristo, SC300, GS300, all have starters on the driver's side.
7M, 2JZ, 1JZ, etc.

I think the 22R had it on the passenger side, hence why i thought it was from a 2WD pickup truck.

To my knowledge all R154's had a pull type clutch (with two access panels), W58 had push type with the clutch arm sticking out (which your pics are showing).

Agreed. That bell housing set off alarms in my head since it has no access windows. For sure not a Supra/Soarer part. Good eye jtamulis.

The later W58's that were produced midway through MK3 Supra production also have a cast iron center section. So any SC300, MK4 NA 5spd Supra and later MK3 NA 5spd Supras w/ W58's all came with the cast iron sandwich plate. Probably forgetting some sort of toyota model in there but you get the idea.

OP Does it appear that bell housing has ever been off the tranny?-scratches or tool marks? It may already have been on its second engine.

it COULD be an R151 from a V6 Toyota Truck, but I still think they have pull type clutches, not push type.
