Anyone replace valve steam seals with oem?
Do the intake seals and the exhaust seals differ at all?
I am asking because I bought a headgasket kit which contains both sets but they all came in one bag and there is no difference to any of them? So do they differ? |
Exactly the same. 12 per engine.

Im in the middle of doing mines for a 2jzgte head. The intake and exhaust valve seals are different. I would assume the ge would be different also. http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...alva+stem+seal

Thanks for the link. I know oem seals are either black or brown to differentiate but for me they are the same color. I am going to have to measure their diameters to see if there is a difference.
I noticed that in a picture in that link though half the seals had a spring around the top while the other half didn't. Is that right? In my case they all have a spring on top. |
They look the same but the part numbers are different. I would call toyota and ask them.

These are sold by the EACH:
1992-1997 Lexus SC300 Beck Arnley Valve Stem Seal BECK ARNLEY ENGINE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE STEM OIL SEAL, SOLD INDIVIDUALLY -- A high quality, OE replacement engine intake and exhaust valve stem oil seal; Part Number 022-1548 I do not believe they are different on your engine but I agree, call the dealer and obtain the part numbers. |
i think the OEM ones are different and some aftermarket ones may be the same.

Hmm, good point. If Toyota thought the parts should be different we should probably accept that. Just because one could order the same part number for both does not prove the design engineers were wrong.

Best deal out there is GSC Viton seals through MVP, just put a set in my head and the quality is great. They are slightly different aside from the color (Intake is brown, Exhaust is blue), one is slightly taller than the other. Can't beat the $14 price for a set of 24 either
|
Who is MVP? For $14, I might as well do these the next time I am in there.

That is a good price. I have a set of viton seals right now but I don't feel right using them because they are all exactly the same. Thanks for the info.

As I understood it the exhaust side is made of a more heat resistant material from factory compared to intake side.
I guess some aftermarket places make them all from the more heat resistant kind. Not sure how good that is for the intake side or if its better, its not like its more expensive really. Also remember you need 12 for intake and 12 for exhaust, so that's a total of 24. I bought the Supertech VS-T6I (intake) and VS-T6E (exhaust) but they aren't installed yet. I figured it was safer to have ones made specifically for each side. **edit** they are different material. exhaust is Viton, Intake is poly-acryllic http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...tem-seals.html VS-T6E Toyota Supra 2JZE 6mm Exhaust Valve stem seal / Viton 11mm/.435" 13.4mm/.529" VS-T6I Toyota Supra 2JZE 6mm Intake Valve stem seal / Polyacrylic. 11mm/.435" 13.4mm/.529" VS-TS6E Toyota (3SGTE/ 4AGE 16v/7MGTE) 6mm Exhaust Valve stem seal/ Viton. 11mm/.435" 13.2mm/.521" Subaru EJ20 / EJ25 VS-TS6E Toyota (3SGTE/ 4AGE 16v/7MGTE) 6mm Intake Valve stem seal / Polyacr. 11mm/.435" 13.2mm/.521" |
