Default IAC / ISC price -- are you kidding me?!

On every car I've owned in the past 20 years, the idle speed controller (aka idle air controller) costs around $100. Cleaning them works ok but replacement is the better long term solution.

Imagine my shock when I went to Advance Auto's website and searched for the part. I had to read the price 3 times -- $1200. That's right, half again more than I paid for the whole car, for a little motor that controls idle speed. Thinking it must be a mistake I checked Rock Auto. They have them for as "cheap" as $700.

I have found the instructions on refurbishing it and I plan to do just that. It is a well-built part for sure, using metal construction and real bearings, but $1200 worth?! You can buy a used and perfectly working 1UZ for under $500.

This has to be old hat to most of you but it came as a shock to me.

Gotta pay to play unfortunately. Cheap to buy, not exactly cheap to run once you have to start replacing things especially OEM ones.

I've never had to replace the IACV before on these cars but see if you can cross reference the part, who knows you might be able to find it cheaper that way?

One of the unfortunate times of having an "L" badge on your car.

Trust me, I won't be buying one at any price in the multiple-hundred dollar range. It's all metal so just cleaning & greasing everything should be fine. The actual motor is ok but it's sticking on me any time the temps change from hot to cold.

I've just never run into a $1200 sensor when it probably cost them that much to make the whole engine. I'm no stranger to expensive car parts (the brake rotors on my brother's benz are $1k each) but a 20 yr old 400 is hardly that car. I can swap to a LS400 front brake setup for under $300 total -- that's reasonable.

yea man your best bet is used parts.

Price sounds ridiculous to me.

I wish i had the space I would literally buy a full 1uz from e-bay and sit on it for when i need parts.

My TPS sensor was close to half the price of a whole engine .

Iacv doesnt really go bad that often there are alot of ones that still work from even the 80's.
most of the time they just need to be cleaned and sprayed down with some lubricant.

That's a 19 inch wheel and the rotor fills it. That's an 8-piston caliper too Stopping a 4800lb coupe with 600hp takes some real anchors!
