Default Ruh-Roh........ engine noise

Sounds lower pitched (unlike a bearing normally would ) and very clearly a knocking.

Whatcha think?

Sounds like timing belt is shredded and hitting something. I honestly doubt that's the case, but that's what it sounds like to me.

The only thing I know for sure is it is a metal knock.I thought it was more towards the front. but when I get over the engine it seems more dead center inside it so I need to investigate further.

I would pop the belt off and run it just to be sure its not any of the accessories. The good news is that you have a spare 1UZ to swap in just in case, right?

Sounds very repetitive like something is rubbing. I'd check under the timing cover and see if something is loose. If you climb under the car do you hear the noise or does it sound higher in the engine?

The car "popped" and lost all power tonight so it seems more serious. I may throw my spare motor in there......and may not have a choice.

Damnit, I wish I would have seen this. That sounds exactly like the timing belt fluttering against the side of the cover.

A bearing is more pronounced, almost like an exhaust leak chug. This is my Galant after the dealership neglected to put about four quarters of oil in my car...then neglected it was their fault stating they use computers to fill a car *facepalm* I do work on computers for a living. I literally grenaded this motor when I got the other one in on the stand.

Maybe it's the serpentine tensionser.

Doesnt sound like rod knock. Rod knock would start to clank as you revved it from metal on metal.
