I have a customers car (1994 SC400 v8 with the overhead cams) that came in for a timing belt replacement. The issue is that the timing marks do not line up as they should. the crank marker and drivers side cam gear line up as they should however the passenger side is at the 3o'clock position instead of the 1o'clock as it should be. According to the customer, the car ran smoothly without issues. My question is, should I replace the belt at the current marks or should it be replaced where the marks should be?

The following picture shows the positions, the drivers side and crank markers are where they should be but the passenger side is not. Did this car slip timing? I would have expected it to run poorly if it had.



They do not match up as in this picture.

i wonder if those cam gears are interchangable and if maybe thats why it looks like that ya know. i'd set it back the way it came from the factory and see what happens.
