Lightbulb CA Smog Assisntance CAP, VRRRM programs

Hello CL!

I was wondering if anyone has ever applied or knows anyone that has for the CAP and VRRRM smog assistance Programs.

i know once you fail a smog test you can apply for Cap program which is a fund of 500$ towards emission repairs, if repairs are over 500$ then you can apply for Vrrrm program which covers 800$ extra on repairs a total of 1300$ if you get approved

my question is IF with greedy mechanic labor fees repairs, parts. and all funds are used and car cant be repaired to pass smog... would CA give you no other choice but to retire your car?

I read about this the other day also. Has anyone actually do this? It's a great program if it's legit and quick.

I have not, I have only heard of a co-worker that has, but all she needed was a O2 sensor.
I am quite sure my corolla which is about my age and by golly its over 400k miles would most likely need a lot more than a O2 sensor and CA catalytic converter to legally pass and get no cost repairs.

The thing that I personally don't like about failing and getting put on that list...is that you're now ON THE LIST.

"Dun dun Duuun"!
i know its Risky i might as well just pay that hooded gangster Korean man in the dark ally to ~pass me~ than risk getting my 86 on the list of "Gross polluters" and a chance of retirement

well if anyone hears or does go for it keep us posted Thank you for the replies!

Certain shops(Gold Sheild Stations) can only work on the car if you are approved for the CAP repairs. I havent been keeping up with this stuff(which I should) but back then your Income and how the vehicle Fails are what qualifies you. Car cant Fail visual and I beleive the Functional part of the test, cant be Tampered.

The Gold Sheild Stations are the ones that are getting the money for the repairs. I hear few of these stations get busted for overcharging and selling unnecessary parts but there out there. The state doesnt determine if your vehilce gets retired, its the consumer that chooses this. If your vehicle gets tagged as a Gross Polluter, they just keep on eye on it and who does the inspections.

I never heard of the VRRRMM program before, must be new. Theres more info on the BARS website:
