Is tranny fluid change necessary? If so which?

How many miles have you guys gone until you first changed your automatic transmission fluid? Is it even necessary? If so which brands did you use and why?

I got a 92 sc4, I use Toyota T-IV atf. I needed 12 quarts for a decent flush and replacement, probably should have used more though to be on the safe side - I'll do it later. People will tell you I'm an idiot for doing my ATF changes every 20,000 miles, but that's what I do, I'm paranoid, and want to postpone the inevitable transmission replacement as much as possible. I'm keeping this car forever. Most people do it every 50-60,000 miles though I think. And yeah, transmission fluid change is pretty darn important.
