Default Hydrogen injection?

Before you all start calling me crazy.... has anyone heard of someone or done one on an SC300 before ? or any Lexus with a 2JZGE?

In case you dont know what I am talking about its the concept of using a hydrogen generator to extract hydrogen from water and inject it into the engine and as a result get better fuel economy, power and cleaner emissions / engine.

Anybody know anything ?

I might attempt to do this to my car since eventually I plan on going with a 1JZ so any if there will be any adverse effects on the engine I wont worry to much.

I didn't think hydrogen injection worked. The concept is sound but the hydrogen source was at best inefficient.

Unless you mean alcohol or methanol injection? Maybe propane injection? Those work well especially on boosted cars.

If you're comfortable driving around with a hydrogen bomb under the hood...by all means go for it. Just stay the hell outta commiefornia.

In all seriousness, I knew a guy who was on the GM project team for a hydrogen engine well over 12 years ago. It was a really cool idea, but it's like communism and cold fusion...good in theory but doesn't really work in the real world.

I had a friend who got it to work with some short lived success in his civic which got some real good mpg's before he wrecked it e-brake sliding in to a curb.

No, actually its hydrogen derived from a water reservoir, so its nota full hydrogen car conversion. I only wantto use hydrogen to inject into the air / fuel mixture in order to increase MPGs. Ihave two local guys that built their own systems for 2 different cars. One was a dodge sprinter van the other a matrix. The sprinter netted roughly 25% better mpgs but the matrixc a whopping 50%. Each system was about $400 to build. The major issue they have is keeping the system from freezing in chicago winters, but all you southern guys wouldn't have the same issue.

I will attempt to build a system and create a writeup to share my experiences.

yeah alot of powertech 4.0 jeep guys run it quite well, they are dangerous but you can make a fail safe pretty easy.

not a scam, ive seen it done on diesel trucks, never thought of doing it to a car as it is a big process that requires a good amount of space. props for thinking OP, now do you plan on doing this?

Yeah I plan on doing this as soon as I get extra money. I just got all my 5spd parts for my car and just did new kyb shocks with supra springs. But in the next few weeks ill be gathering ideas and data for creating the system. Ill probably make a seperate build thread for it.

Yeah there were a few tow trucks here that did it, but yeah same concepts apply to regular vehicles.

i stand corrected there is a company that has a kit that says it will fit under the hood of any car. so there is a $500 under hood option or u can build the heavy duty DIY kit which will most likely give u more range

i built a unit and heard some bad things about what it could do to your engine. If you run it too lean it can burn up a piston. I have a dry cell system. only thing i never completed was the switch for the O2 sensors. You gotta fool the computer into thinking it's not running lean or rich, keep the signal .05mA. The reason why so many people think it doesn't work is for this reason. O2 sensor senses a lean mix and dumps more fuel, ofseting the gain you get from the hydrogen.

Well essentially any engine running too lean from whatever issue will do that, but what kind of setup did you run? What did you use to make it and how much money did it involve? Also since you didnt do the O2 modification what were you seeing mpg wise?
