Default What have you guys personally spent on a 1JZ swap?

I know the motor costs $2000 give or take with the 5 speed I want (R514), $1500 for a Driftmotion 500-600hp turbo kit (unless I just want to put a used turbo on with a used manifold for less power capacity), $350 for the 5sp pedals (unless I get used again) and extra for odds and ends pieces, etc.

I'm curious what the guys that have actually done the swap payed for their setup, and what they used. It'd cost so much to 5sp my v8 and supercharge it to make any real power, so I figured I'd 1JZ it (been in love with inline 6s since my Datsun Z days) and just bolt on a larger turbo and up the boost as I go along for my power fix.

I had a hookup on mine. So far spent $1200 on motor, new turbo kit (turbo, manifold, wastegate) an fmic. And my car is factory 5spd.

I spent around $2000 for engine and installation. Installed it my self

1500 for engine + shipping. 500 for tools, fluids, etc... I think it was really good investment.

So it IS cheaper than installing a 5sp and supercharging the v8? I guess some numbers I came across were wrong

Still trying to find a good page on info on the 1JZ, as in it's limits, some popular builds people do to them with power figures, etc. Every page I find is just about installing a 1JZ into whatever car, not much on people hotrodding them

Why not pic up a low mileage 2jzge, piece together a good turbo kit from the SF and CL forums, that way you have a easily upgradeable engine and you can always make changes, plus you will have loads of money left over to get good parts.

It is more practical to trade for an SC300.

SC400 is inconvenient for the 1JZ swap.
-SC300 harness is required if you wish the new harness to look classy.
--Harness is almost more difficult to modify whereas the Soarer harness is almost plug and play after extension.
-SC300 power steering hose is required.
-SC300 driveshaft is required.
-SC300 air condition lines are required. (if you wish to have working A/C)
-SC300 gauge cluster is required if you wish the tachometer to be accurate. An alternative is a tach adapter.
-New exhaust is REQUIRED whereas the SC300 exhaust can be bolted on if you wish to upgrade later.

very true
spent $1800 for motor
$500-$700 on maintenance, gaskets etc..
$500 for ic,piping bov, dp, exhaust

can be done fairly cheap if you are already 5 speed as you can reuse your w58
i would personally consider looking into going na-t can be had for alot less

Its funny because I always forget how much I spend when I see the look on peoples face when my BOV goes off. But what ever your budget is save up $500.00 extra and pretend there not there just to be safe.

What year is your sc400? I think obd2 cars may have a little bit of a wiring issue but I am unsure as I have never swapped an sc400 obd2 with an obd1 engine set up.
