Default Shift linkage

Posted earlier today with transmission problem. Got one response suggesting I may have a linkage problem. I'm just learning about this stuff and I need a DIY guide on how to access and then check the linkage.

Thanks,

Lift your car up, go underneath it and look on the rear passenger side of the transmission. Youll see a little metal stick connected to the shifter and the transmission.

Thanks for the directions. Once I do that - what's next. I know next to nothing about these things but I can't afford to have the car towed to a mechanic and then have to pay him for his work.
Thanks,

There should be a bolt holding the shift linkage to the shifter if its still on there tight then your problem is something else. What exactly is your problem?
