Well compression numbers were a bit high, but consistent.

Plugs are all clean. No obvious signs of burning oil. I cant do a leakdown until Saturday, but will post those results as well.

^You know my friend with a really quick DSM is having the same issue after boosting with the smoke. He's pretty positive its caused by blow-by, so he got a good catch can with 10an lines..no more smoke.

Maybe a leak-down will tell me more. What does not make sense is why it SUDDENLY happened. I don't think blow-by just appears over the course of a couple days does it? I dont know. And it seems like it if was extreme blowby, I would see if with the engine running with no breathers plugged in and no oil cap???

I have had worn out engines and the blow-by would puff blue smoke out of the oil filler if the car was running and the cap was off.

If the leakdown comes back good, I am going to pull these turbos off and build a header so I can run this thing NA and see if it still smokes.

Well, maybe it IS shot oil rings.

Here is what I found today; I started pulling the twins off so I can run it NA to see if it is the turbos. The #1 turbo compressor inlet was soaked with oil. Just like my stock #1 turbo was when I pulled it.

Since there is oil all in the INLET of the compressor, wouldn't that mean its pulling oil from the pass side vc vent hose? The inlet piping from the vc hose to the #1 turbo is pretty much oiled up. #2 is clean...

I think it is pulling oil past the rings on decel. That would explain why it is smoking the exact same way, and the exact same amount with both sets of twins(one set with 4k miles on them)...

I have one stupid bolt that is rounded off that I will have to torch off tomorrow, but once that is done, I have a NA setup that I will run as an experiment. I fully expect it to burn oil NA too but we will see

You won't see the slowly idling I don't think, unless the engine is really worn. Gte's have a tendancy to have extreme blowby. ive heard of people filling a small catch can between oil changes on engines that check out. If ur intake pipe to turbo is oiled its usually that. The ge seems to have less blowby.

Yeah I think it is blow-by but won't know until I can run the car NA for a while. I have it setup NA right now, but I ran out of time and distilled water to fill the rad back up today. If I confirm it is rings, the motor will get torn down and rebuilt. The car still runs really well, but I can't stand the smoke.

those are good compression numbers, its sort of a normal occurance for a gte setup, a guess is the oil squirters, who knows really.
if you just want to get rid of the smoke I would do the catch can first, grab yourself a new gte pcv from toyota while your at it ~$10-15. i guess you will know more when you have it running.

It has a new PCV already. I will try the catch can, but if it is oil rings, catch can wont help that will it? Oh well, we shall see.

Ok, so I ran it NA and.....No smoke. The only thing is, I had nowhere to really route the pass side VC hose, so I had to just let it sit open. Anywho, no smoke, and no oil out of the VC hose either.

Sooooo, I guess the next step is put the turbos on, leave the VC vent either open, or to a catch can, and then see what happens. Damn, I should have done that to begin with, but I really wanted to see what happened without the twins on there.

Oh, the car has a bad intermittent miss at idle and low RPM now too. Sheesh! I guess I need to pull the plugs and check the coils. See if I can run that down too.

NA GTE FTL! Rockin the v-band diamondplate!

lol, cant say ive ever seen that before, very creative.
Just reinstall turbos and put a breather right on the VC.
when you attatch the vc to the intake pipe you get slight vacuum which will help evacuate the gases and promote sealing (good) but any oil that happens to be in that crank case area will also get pulled (not so good).

without the turbos you are probably not generating positive pressure at all in the crank case. my guess is you will start to see oil coming out the VC hose with the turbos back on. If you are loosing any oil from there, run a breather or a vented catch can. routing the can back to the intake runs the risk of smoke, and also oil doesn't burn well = risk of detonation in boost.
If you are lucky and are not accumulating any oil in your catch can, then it would be beneficial to route it to the intake pipe.

Sounds good mang. I reckon that is the route I will be taking. I also agree that I am probably not seeing positive pressure in the crankcase without the turbos on there. At least not much.

So you like my custom diamond plate chras huh?

Thanks! Yeah, I will update once I get the twins back on. I am getting pretty proficient at installing/removing twins LOL.
