Oh sweet, so at least that seems to be working. Nice. Can you post a modified version of the diagram showing exactly where you tapped in for the relay wiring on D?

Ok, so the shift lock ecu looks like it controls OD lockup, and then sends a signal to the ecu and cluster for either D, or both 3 and D depending on some variables. Do the 99s have an OD on/off switch like the early cars? It could be that that switch is unplugged which is confusing the 3/d lock ecu, or it is hiding under the console and is maybe set to "off"? I am wondering if jumping that "shift lock ecu" from pins 1 to 7 would trick it into thinking its in D.

Do you have any more of that awesome verbiage explaining power flow during operation like you posted before? Maybe something specific to that shift lock ecu?

Also, can you find a diagram showing a full pinout on that shift lock ecu?

Oh, I meant to ask, if you remove your jumper and pull the ebrake up, will the car start?

if i remove the jumper and pull the e-brake up, the car will not start.

also, if i have the jumper removed and go faster than 10mph, the CEL comes on (no gear selected, or something like that).

That makes no sense. If you are connecting pins 4 and 7 via the relay, it is no different that using a jumper. Try wiring the relay directly off of the trans plug. There must be something that is being bypassed by wiring it in at the other plugs.

yeah i was thinking "if Park lights up, it's in park. why cant i crank it?"
something must be missed by hooking up the relay up at the IK/IJ plugs. this is probably why D doesn't light up when the other pin is connected (e-brake down).
i will move the relay down to the actual trans plug when i get home and see what happens.

ok i jumpered that "transmission mode connector" to make "D" light up, and it worked. i believe it was pins 1 and 7 (g/y and L)

so now when i pull the e-brake up, the P lights up, when i put the e-brake down, D lights up.

Cartmill, you're my inspiration. I might actually try to swap mine...

How much you paid so far for everything?

So I've just been kinda watching this thread (because I hope to do a 5-speed swap within the next 12 months) and I just want to thank you two ahead of time for all the invaluable info/diagrams you have posted. This thread seriously is an asset to the CL community. Great job guys! ...oh, and glad you got the Park/Drive/starting issue resolved!!

If you plan to swap the 93 in your sig, you won't have near the issues cartmill is having, and you won't have to jump through all these hoops. The OBDII cars are obviously really picky about what you can and can't unplug or bypass.

The OBDI cars are super forgiving in that regard. The cruise is a one wire fix, and you won't get a CEL from removing the auto trans.
