Hey Guys, I was wondering if anybody here might could help. I bought a 1998 SC400 with an automatic transmission yesterday. It has 180,000 miles. It drives great and shift flawlessly when in "D" mode. However, the car will not let me manually shift into "L" gear. If I put in "L" then the car will start off in 1st gear but soon shift into 2nd gear.

I am not sure if this is relevant or not, but the dashboard shows me what gear I have the selector on. However, it will not light up for either 2nd or 1st gear when the selector is there.

Any thoughts? I really don't mind that it won't manually go into 1st gear, I just want to make sure the tranny isn't about to go out or something.
