single turbo - the hunt for 1JZ 500rwhp
im in the planning of going single on the 1JZ and right now looking for the fastest spooling turbo for 500rwhp
there're so many different turbos on the marked right now that im really confused on what to get. i searched old threads but not so sure that these garrett gt35r are still the latest in turbo technology since lately I heard so much good things about borg warner or billet.
this is what i currently think of doing to support the turbo:
stock 1JZ
stock auto ecu + aem fic
680cc injectors
262 cams
bosch 044 fuel pump
and these turbos are on my list so far: Precision SC6265 Billet, bullseye s259/s362, holset hx40, garrett gt35r
any suggestions?

funny. I am doing exactly the same thiing. I think I am 1 month ahead of you. I don't know much but here is the goodies i chose for myself
turbo: gt3582r turbo. .70 ar cold / .82 ar hot (you can get different exhaust housings but I think this will work good)
aem ems v1
tial mv4 44m WG
hks SSQ BOV
greddy 3 row FMIC and piping
3 in down pipe and catback
wideband uego
xs exhaust manifold
soon to come:
exedy hyper twin disc clutch kit (flywheel, clutch, pressure)
650cc injectors
boost solenoid
but all those turbos you mentioned are good for the power demands. good reviews on the precision turbo on this forum. also bullseye is good and you can't go wrong with garrett.

have you tried this?

plug in your numbers and you will see the gt3582r hits the graph perfect. actually I picked up a whole bunch of parts from this guy in san diego. he is selling a great condition gt3582r with a 58 ar exhaust housing. v band. I would have bought it but i already bought one. selling for 900 bucks!!

funny indeed. looks like a nice setup. that greddy FMIC kit must've cost a fortune!
well i know that the garrett gt35r is a save bet but seems like its getting outperformed by billet or borg warner turbos. on the other hand there some people saying billet turbos are prone to fail.
maybe i just start buying all the other stuff first and think about the turbo later. (when youre done and post some dyno sheets )

I'm running a gt35r on my 1jzgte with PE 800cc, tuned with a SAFC. I made 420whp/393tq at 18psi and 532whp/466tq at 26psi with race gas. I'm thinking eventually I would like to get a billet turbo, but I'm definitely satisfied for now. Good luck with you build fam.
