How to: Trunk Lift Support w/ pics...
Changed mine out about a week ago. Pretty easy thanks to this thread, especially heating the ball nut to loosen the loc-tite, and removing the rubber stopper to allow the strut to extend all the way. Got both struts (non-spoiler) from RockAuto, about $40 with shipping. Each strut came with ball joint and the metal clip for the opposite end. Trunk doesn't pop all the way open, nor do I care, but it does stay open now and won't try to eat you every time you lean in.
I was at Pep Boys and noticed they had a special on lift supports- buy one, get one free until Dec 1st. I didn't think they carried one to fit our cars but I asked and they did- they had 2 SACHS SG429001 in stock, $20 each.
With the buy-one-get-one-free offer, total cost is $20 for the pair, and it gets better: printed on the reciept is a warranty on the part for as long as you own your car. They may or may not honor it a few years from now if it just wears out from normal use, but it's worth a shot.

Well, if they are holding your trunk up, it sure isn't the shocks. Follow that curved arm found in the pics on the first page of this thread all the way up to the pivot point and give that a squirt of WD-40.
bump for such a good thread. I ordered a set of AcDelco's today. I'm tired of my truck falling me every time I open it. The spoiler makes it heavy. Hopefully the struts will give me a baller status auto lifting truck, haha
Also on a side that site has pretty good prices on other parts. Like Plug wires, cap and rotors

I'm having a hard time removing those bolts holding the stuts in place. I know loctite is holding them in place. whats an easy way to remove them without stripping them. I don't wanna take a flame to them cause the gas tank is right there.
Are you smelling gas fumes?
If not, I don't understand your concern- there's plenty of clearance and it only takes a few seconds.
But if you want to stretch it out to a couple of minutes, you can always use the tip of a soldering iron.

OK so I tried the propane torch and what do you know, right away the flame jumps to the gas tank which is less than a foot away, even though I didn't smell any gas fumes. The trunk catches on fire, while I run to get a garden and the car blows up.
Worst Idea ever...

Why even use a propane torch? I only had to use a lighter to get the loctite to melt.
Just finished replacing mine thanks to this thread...easy as 1,2,3 and I didn't have to use a torch at all. Matter of fact they came loose with no problem.
I have heard the shocks for the sc400 with spoiler will still work on an sc300 so if any one wants my old ones I would be happy to give them to you.
This is a kick *** forum btw...
