92 sc400 rough idle at 400 rpm intermittent
Hi everyone
Its been a bummer. Had my starter replaced at my friends shop, he did all the work. Car ran fine for a week and then i pulled up to a light and the idle dropped to 400 RPM and then it felt like I was running on 5-6 cylinders. i brought it back to the shop and he cleaned the MAF and ruined it, he put in a new/ used MAF and it stopped throwing the CEL., but after driving it around for a couple of days it started running rough at 400 RPM and then fueled fouled the plugs. Took it to the lexus dealer who put in new stock plugs, the mechanic mentioned sc's dont like champion plugs? But the mechanic still cant fix the intermittent low idle, any ideas? before the started was replaced everything ran fine on the car. Dam I pissed and dam near broke, any ideas apprciated

Can be bad ignition coil and not related to the starter replacement.
Mine had a bad coil and idled very rough and idle dropped to 400 RPM too
Just a thought if you want to check them out... even if they pass the voltage test sometimes they are broke. Second test wear rubber gloves wait until the car has the problem and unplug both coils one at a time see what the engine sounds like.

hi everyone thanks for the help.
quick update, car ran great after new plugs for a half hour then it felt like it is running on 5 cylinders, took it back to a different shop and they say my number seven cylinder has no compression. i can hear what i think it is the valves, lexus dealership told me to change oil and that gasoline could be in the cylinder causing a no compression reading. could a coil effect one cylinder. what is weird about this is the car pulled strong for one half hour and then ran on 7 cylinders, hard to believe my engine or valves are fried.
everyone at the shops tells me something diffferent, the engine has 245000 miles but still ran like new until i had the starter changed. ****

Does your engine hesitate or shake quite a bit when you start the engine? If so, yea then it's either coils, spark plugs, or let's hope not, your valves. If it's the valves then you gotta rebuilt your cylinder heads, or you can replace/swap a new or used engine.
