does the sc400 tranny only take 2 quarts?

I've been needing to change my transmission fluid 40k miles ago, and well i go to autozone and the it only takes 2 quarts of fluid? I bought only 2 quarts of castro high mileage transmission fluid.

also this is my first transmission fluid/filter change ever so ill probably be back with more questions

The transmission holds much more than that, its just that draining it and dropping the pan, you only loose 2 quarts, the rest is still in other parts of the trans. If you need to change all your fluid, you can either go get it flushed somewhere, or do a drain and refill, drive it a few days, repeat that a few more times, then finally drain, change the filter, and refill the last time.

Unless your trans fluid is brown/black/smells like burnt fluid, You should be find with just a drain a refill one time. Change the filter if you want, but if your fluid is good and clean your filter probably is too. Our filters aren't much more than a metal screen from what I know....

Also, as I'm sure someone will point out soon enough, you really should only use Toyota type T-IV trans fluid in the sc400 tranny. Lots of people have reported slipping/ shift problems/etc. after doing a fluid change with any other kind of fluid. Even if the bottle says its compatible with T-IV fluid, I would go to Toyota and buy a few bottles just to be safe.

yeah, I just did drain and refill like 3 times today..cost me 60 dollars in fluids...so 6 quarts total but I drove it on highway between changes..
I used Toyota T-IV fluids...I think its a cheap insurance for you to go and drain and refill like me with Toyota T-IV and replace all the fluids since you have "wrong" type of fluid in there...go with toyota genuine T-IV unless you want to go with amsoil..
Apparently amsoil is ok cuz my friend flushed his tranny with amsoil and its running strong.
;)
