Default what is the max power that can be pushed through my transmission?

i have a 1997 Lexus SC 300 2JZGE with the automatic transmission. Had a lot of my friends tell me that the transmissions wouldn't hold up to more than about 320hp being pushed through it. wanting to hear a second opinion, because my plans are 4-500hp at the wheels and i need a heads up if i need to save up for a transmission to do that. and if what my friends say is indeed true, what transmission should i replace my existing with?

I dont think your transmission will hold that power. Id recommend getting a r154 or having that one built if you want to stay auto.

W58 < Built Auto/R154 < V160 is basically how it goes.

it will probably hold 500 through it for at least 5 seconds.
have some friends there to help push it back up the driveway.
for autos either a built auto or if you are planning on dragging a gm trans is not a bad idea.
for manuals you could get near 400 with a w58 but anymore go R154 or v160

will there be any problems w/ matching up the bell housing? and what problems fitting the driveshaft should i expect, or will it just bolt up? basically looking for possible screw-up point before i tear into my car and then hit a snag i didn't think about.

I have been playing with fire on my SC stock auto trans..adding a trans cooler, and shims will allow a little more play room (still 350rwhp max IMO), but best bet would be to just go with an R154, or like Ali said, place a TH400 in it and be done.

anyway its going to cost $8/900+ on the VERY VERY low side.
