2jz vs 1jz?????sc project
ok hello all.
new here please dont crucify me, looking for info for a motor swap in my sc300 its a 1992 car.
#1 been reading and i see alot of people going 1jz as a swap, which really confuses me. Why would you drop motor size to a 2.5 litter vs 3.0 litter??(2jz)
#2 will the 2jzgte bolt up to the w58 tranny 5 speed? and i have read the w58 is only good to 450 hp, but will it work?
and if i get the 2jzgte and the wiring harness with the ecu would the harness need to be lengthened? or could i use the harness i have in my car now?
if i went this route i would try and go single turbo any suggestions on what parts i need?
this will be a daily driver so i dont want crazy horse power but i want it to get your attention and be super fun to drive.
if i decide to do a 6 speed later i read that the tunnel has to be modified, is this true, or will it fit with no mods?
i know im asking a lot here but im tring to learn about this car .
and is na =naturally aspirated and na-t naturally aspirated turbo?
im really excited about making this car more fun to drive i have plans for a brake upgrade, suspension upgrade, wheels, tires and motor & turbo upgrades just trying to do my homework and get as much info as possible before i start.
some of the info i been reading is conflicting info so i want to make sure i get the correct info so i can do this right the first time .
i want to use after market emc and boost controler with other mods, but really have never had a turbo so trying to get up to speed .
any help is so greatly appreciated and if any one lives in or around central florida and would be willing to help and talk with me about this project that would be great.

1. 1jz swap is cheaper, and its just as capable in terms of power with the only limiting factor being the size of you wallet. the 2jzgte is still top dog though so if you have the money, go for it
2. yes it will, but like you said, its not going to handle a lot of power, try getting your hands on a r154 instead if big power is your goal
3. for the 1jz swap, you get it lenghten, but for the 2jzgte swap, i believe you just get your exsisting harness, and the 2jzgte harness you bought spliced together professionally
4. to go single, you would need manifold, turbo, wastegate, BOV, IC, and pipes, if you going 2jzgte then you have 440cc(JDM) injectors already, so something to tune with, exhaust, etc
5. the 6spd swap is a whole new can of worms, the trans alone is about $3500, then you need driveshaft, diff, and some more stuff that im not familiar with since i have no plans in doing it.
6.NA-T=naturally aspirated+turbo

its not a bad way to start with the 2jzgte + w58. cost effective and gets the job done for stock to bpu levels. If you shift easy the transmission will hold up fine to 400hp.
If slamming gears / clutch kicking is something you love to do then its safer to go with the r154.
