You should be able to do it if you remove the wheel and turn it around. My looked bad too when I removed it (with obvious amounts of plastic falling off). But I turned it and used the other side. It works well now. Good luck.

Yeah, but if you dont space it properly with the washers your goin to run into the same problem down the road bro. I would take it back apart and install the spacers if I were you. Just my 2penny's worth..

it would be good if we could track down a generic tilt motor that could be made to work for a lot cheaper. its just a plain motor for the up down tilt. only thing special about the motor is that the mounting bracket is welded on. gotta be a way around it!

Default My first Post---auto tilt steering

Great Forum and impressive video for the fix. This is my first post after owning SC's for 20 years---and this is my first required repair. What a great car and would be owning the original if it wasn't totaled by an idiot.

Changed battery, turned key on and tilt steering--locked in up position.

I will take apart tonight and do the 3 washer fix.

My question is I have changed batteries in a sc300 -3 times and in my current 1999 SC400-two times and this was the first time I have incurred the problem.
I also noticed one post in this thread about the battery issue and I believe he simply disconnected the battery and VOILA--fixed. I have not done this as a neighbor changed his battery--had the same problem and had to have his engine retimed in addition. WTF--is there a procedure for changing a Lexus battery?

i can say with almost all certainty that the battery has nothing to do with the tilt steering. i went to turn my car on from one day to another and it didnt work anymore. its something that just happens. it is sooooo easy to fix it to. i used the little circle pads u put under furniture so it doesnt scratch the wood and it worked great.

battery: no there is no soecial way to change it. just make sure u dont cross the cables. in the 400(not sure if the 300 too) it is very easy to get the two terminals mixed up. other then that very straight forward. take it out and put the new one in. gl

CMH-- thanks. Did the insert washer solution and Voila--all is good. c-irir== what a great video.

Turned off the auto up down button and will do it manually.

Since I am an engineer-- I don't believe in coincidences-- the battery matters somehow?
