The V8 is non interference? huh, I thought timing chain cars were. I Guess you learn something new everyday.

Your engine is not interference being that it is a 92 and they did not go interference until 95 when the compression was raised. The motor does not use a timing chain, it uses a timing belt which either way has no bearing on interference or not.

Klaus answered you correctly about your engine. As long as that is a 92 engine, you are definitely NON-INTERFERENCE.

Correct. Non-interference = no damage

How is 95 any different than 92? Along with 96 AND 97?

The only differences in those engines is the OBD1 to 2 upgrade, EGR change, and lighter rods to get some extra power...

ALL NON VVTI 1uzfe's are NON INTERFERENCE!! (1997 SC400 and older)

The only INTERFERENCE engines are the VVTI 1uzfe's. (98+)

Im with redpheonix on this, everywhere i researched to figure out what what wrong with my 1uz said 96< was non-interference. Im 90% sure all OBD1 are non-interference, the OBD2 is the "re-design" of the motor and interference heads. Just take care of your car, do regular maintenience and hopefully you will never have to find out the hard way. Comming from experience The timing belt and the cooling need to be looked after! Other than that its bullet proof...Makes me wanna shoot bullets at my 1uz to see if it really is...lol

I am still looking for proof on the issue of the 96SC400 motor being interference or not. It appears that there is still no concensus on the issue of which were and which were not interference motors. Will someone please provide proof of which years were actually non-interference? Once again, proof please. Not anecdote, not hearsay, but proof. Thank you kindly.

There is no issue of the definition of a non-interference motor. The issue remains as to what years are interference and what are non-interference for the 1uz-fe. And, to provide the proof to the forum to resolve this question.
