Default Well, the mechanic says I need a head gasket.

What are the symptoms you guys have had on the 4.0?

Anyone in the DFW area that can recommend a good shop to do this? I have had so many problems with the coolant system and such that I just want to give it to someone and have it done.

What exactly is the car doing? Blowing headgaskets on that motor is pretty rare. Dont forget you can get a new 1uz for cheap. I bet the HG job is going to be more than another 1uz would be.....just a thought. I would reccomend doing it yourself if you have any mechanical smarts at all...

white/bluish smoke out the tailpipe, running hot, milky oil on the dipstick, oil in the radiator, funny egg/bad fart smell?

I dont trust 90% of mechanics or what they say you "need"..they are like hookers, almost anything for a buck..

It runs smooth as a piece of glass and makes good power (for the car). No white smoke, no water in the oil and no over heating. It all started when I took a rock in the radiator and it punched a whole right threw. I replaced it, hoses, TS, and WP(ETC). I have tried EVERY method of getting all the air out of the system possible and I still have no heat and it will push all the water out of the overflow until it gets to a certin point (2 qts less than what I had in) and the darn light always comes on! I have been going threw this almost as long as I have owned the thing! I have found a 1UZ for around 100 buck but do not have a way of getting it home!

He said that it was a very slight pin hole that allowed the gas in but not really big enough to allow the water or alot of it threw.

If there is no smoke, there is no blown HG. Seems like you need to flush the coolant system and do a pressure check. Shouldnt cost much and is fairly simple to do. Could be something in the heater core or something. IMO this is not a head gasket case.

If it is getting into the cylinders at all, it will smoke. End of story. Coolant burns white. Pure white smoke.

Lol, wow. Thats insane. The job isnt that hard. Its time consuming and you have to have a machine shop near by. Just unplug, have the heads machined, replace gasket and head studs, plug back in.

I guess I will have her flushed tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens! If nothing changes, I might just have to let her go.

as long as coolant is not in the cylinders, no blown head gasket, lots of cars leak exhaust gases into the cooling system causing bubbles in the resavoir and boling over without burning coolant check for that as well, if its not doing these two things then it is probly something else

Ok, that did not help either.

How much do you guys think that I could get for my Ole' Golf Ball? She is Pearl White with 136K on her and all the typical problems. Recently replaced was the PWR steering hose, the entire coolant system, plugs, wires, coils and all 4 tires. The only performance mod she has is a full catback with GT500K7 mufflers and no resonators.

I was tihinking maybe 2000. What do you guys think?

Depends on what year it is man. If its a 92-94, I am going to guess you would have some problems selling for that price.
