Is 18 mpg good for a sc400?
My '97 SC 400's computer shows about ~20mpg mixed. When I was driving home and back I got about 22mpg on the highways. When I activated the cruise control, I got almost 24mpg highway.
back when I first got my car I was getting less than 17mpg, but that was when I was excited and eager to get on the throttle. These days I drive much more conservatively. In town, there is no need to exceed 2000rpm with that 1UZ.
But different people drive different cars in different places. A lot of it has to do with the way traffic moves and how heavy your right foot is.

Interesting. Just yesterday, it ran out of gas a block from home. Trip odometer read 383 miles. The warning light came on at 353 and I wanted to see how many miles were left when that happened. I figured two gallons were left. It appears that I had 1 1/2 gallons. Combined mileage for last 1000 miles is 20.5 with relatively conservative driving.
I may have to try the air pressure thing, but is it with Nitrogen or aftermarket rims and tires? I get only around 20 total everywhere, but I have a BFI and full open exhaust.
You have to be careful with the high inflation pressures.
I usually put about 38 or so in mine. I feel that's the best blend of good MPG and not wearing out the tires in the center from over inflation. The cost lost by wearing out a set of tires too soon could be much greater than the small gain in MPG saves you.
I used to average about 21-20 with a lot of mixed driving. That was taking it slow all the time, if I got on it at all my MPG went down.
