Default Couple power steering pump questions

I got the pump and stuff off my 400 last week and the parts came in today to replace the alternator and pump with a rebuilt unit with only 5k miles on it. Here are my questions:

Does anyone have any pros/cons to removing the ACV on the power steering pump as recommended in the walkthrough I found on how to replace the pump. Also, what is that electrical thing RIGHT next to the pump that really gets in the way of getting at the bolts that hold the pump to the block? It also has 2 vacuum lines.

Also, the smaller, upper line on the resovoir is kinda cracked and probably going to be useless to reuse, but the bigger bottom one looked just fine. Is that something I can get universal hose from the parts store and cut to length, or does it need to be a part purchased from the dealership? I don't want to get the wrong stuff and then have power steering fluid spraying or leaking all over my engine.
