Default 98+ cluster in 92~96 sc300

I know this has been allegedly "beat to death" in the past, but I need to ask this question. I have searched MANY MANY times only to find "I'm not going to post the answer because it has been answered before". In any event, what is the quickest most effective way of doing this swap? I have both dashes with my original 93 one being completely not worth the effort of restoring. Can anybody shed some light on this so I don't have to decipher all of the schematics. If that's the only solution then that's what I must do I suppose. Thanks in advance for any help guys.

I'm sure that it's possible to swap but the amount of wiring that I'm sure it's going to require IMO won't be worth it. You might as well just get a working 92 cluster and call it a day. There's too many different variables/differences between the two clusters.

Yeah..that's kind of the response I expected to recieve from this forum (nothing personal). I was just wondering if anybody was aware of the pinout differences aside from the obvious plug changes. I guess I'll figure it out on my own just like everything else electrical on this damn car.

Well, I know it has been done and completed in the past by others. I just cannot seem to find any real data to support the claims let alone any assistance from these people. No worries though, I can and will do it. It will just take a little bit longer starting with nothing but schematics.

There is a guy that knows how to do it. he charges a fee for it, but it works. Contact gazi, and he can send you to the guy.

I did about Four of them a while back. I cut all of the Plugs off of the 97 - 00 SC300 or SC400 and solder the wires to the 92 - 96 SC400 or SC400. There were about Three wire that had no match on the 92 - 96 SC400 or SC400 Wire harness. I made it so I could use the 97-00 Cluster or 92-96 Cluster Both could also be plugged in at the same time. I will Post a picture of the one I have later

Would they have something to do with the extra gauge that has average/instant fuel economy, etc...????

That's some real ingenuity right there.

Does the intant mpg meter work?

What does the newer gauge cluster look like?

What is the real benefit of this mod?

If you have a pre-98 sc400, then you'd want to get a cluster from a 97+ sc300 correct? That way you'd get the 4 speed shift indicator and not the 5 speed. correct?

I've only ever seen the cluster in my 95 and other 92's and 93's and stuff.

My ride is a 95sc400 and I have the dash and harness from a 99 sc300.

It's no different from any mod.... if it is something you like and want to try then do it. It's the same reason you change the grill, or the lip, or the wheels.... in stock form, the newer cluster has advantages over the older one. Of course in stock form both suck IMO and both fail.... you just have an extra year or two so...... back to the simple reason.... you'd do it "because you want to".

I wouldn't rewire a dash for another stock cluster. If I rewired the dash and went through that trouble I'd run a Stack cluster.
