Best way to drain P/S fluid?

I'm about to put my 3rd P/S pump in my 400. First one went out in January and I replaced it with an ATSCO from Autozone. It lasted until last month when the front bearing seal blew off. I replaced it then and it only lasted 3 weeks. This one seized up while I was driving and I had to tow it home. Autozone was kind enough to throw in a free drive belt this time.

Before I dig into this again, I was wondering if there was an easier way to drain the fluid from the pump before I pull it? I have been using a pump to get as much out of the canister as possible and then removing the inlet tube and letting the rest drain out into a catch pan. I then drain from the back of the pump by removing the feed tube. All this gets pretty messy.

Any suggestions? Can I drain from the rack instead?

Thanks.

FYI - I ended up figuring out a little bit easier way.
1. Manual pump to remove fluid from canister.
2. Remove 3 mounting bolts on canister and let it sit where the airbox normally is.
3. Disconnect return tube and plug.
4. Turn canister so that the pump feed tube is draining back into the canister and remove tube from canister. This step was key to not make a mess.
5. Disconnect high pressure line and let it drain for a couple minutes into the catch pan.

BTW, this pump failed the same way the last one did. The front bearing seal blew and seized up. It looked nasty!

do you have diy for the p/s pump for the 93 sc400? I think I need to replace mines because there is a lot of moisture, dirt around my p/s pump. probably might be leaking into my alternator causing a very stink smell, and my problems with the car.

Here's a link for doing it on a LS400...pretty similar.
http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/steer...mpremoval.html

Basic steps I follow are:
1. Disconnect battery.
2. Remove airbox.
3. Loosen nut on P/S pulley before removing drive belt.
4. Jack up the car.
5. Remove alternator. I actually remove the tensioner pulley too so i can pull the alternator up through the engine bay.
6. Drain fluids.
7. Remove P/S pump.
