Should I get the Timing Belt parts at the dealer?

Default Should I get the Timing Belt parts at the dealer?

I just wanted to know what you guys thought was the best course of action money-wise when it was to getting the parts. (Belt, tensioners, water pump, etc.)

I wonder where my mechanic gets his parts...

Most mechanics would have an account to the dealer to get the parts. They also go to some wholesaler 3rd party distributor. That distributor would and could be the same as where autozone/pepboys/kragen get their stuff. Most likely they will get it from those places and resort to going to the dealer last.

I have a shop here that I go to from time to time when i'm lazy to work on my own car. He claims that if I want OEM parts that he would buy it at the dealer. The problem is, do I really trust him to do that? No... So its really up to you.... If you don't trust your mechanic enough to put the parts you want, buy the parts and hire him to do the install. Thats what I do sometimes.

I'd suggest ordering from Curt at Elmhurst Toyota. Go to Supraforums and to the Elmhurst Vendor forum for a price quote.

He'll appreciate it if you search the forums for previous part numbers and quotes too...

www.toyotaworld.com as long as you know the part number, then call up your local Toyota dealership and say Carson Toyota said they will sell me the parts at what ever price Toyota world does.

Toyota world = Carson Toyota btw.

I just bought a bunch of stuff from Hendrick Lexus...(Through my shop) OEM lexus timing belt was only $22!! (Only $2 more than a GatorBack) I think it lists for $29 for walk-ins so its still worth getting oem vs aftermarket.

Yes. 95% of the time my parts were cheaper through Curt Aigner with shipping than from the local Toyota dealer. Dealers prices vary significantly so I can't say this is a 100% all the time thing.

I forgot to mention that I have an SC400. No 1UZ parts from Curt.
