It shifted fine before I made the bracket because there was nothing restricting movement, with the bracket it keeps it from moving as freely and kept it from shifting into certain gears.

You might could bend those braces up but the holes in them are fairly small and to get them to fit the bolts I assume you are talking about you would have to remove the bushing.

The shifter I am talking about for the MKIII is the one that is pretty long and has two bends in it with the vibration deadning material in it. What I did was un bend the second spot and move the point where the bend starts further back, making the shifter a little bit short but puts it in the correct position.

I have this shifter: http://picasaweb.google.com/samwayfd...10585088429010

Is that the one you used?

My friend is a Northrop Grumman welder. I'm thinking about bending the support arms from the MKIV assy up and finding a sold spot to weld them onto the tail shaft for support. This way it keeps the functionality of the extended assembly and I can still use the short shifter I've already paid for and received.

Where did you mount the other side of your bracket to? I'm thinking that bolt about 3 inches about the bottom of the support arm directly beneath the linkage housing?

I have the shifter you have pictured beside your tranny but its for the SC300 W58 sits about 2 inches back from the MKIII. You could always seperate the second part of that shifter bend it and weld on an extension. If you can get the MKIV one to work let me know how you approached it and I'll see if I can duplicate it.

Would extending the existing shifter not tamper with the trow? I see it in my head as being a push up/pull down movement, instead of a forward/back as it should be. I dunno, I'm not an engineer and I could just be screwing it up in my imagination.

I think I'm gonna chug along with the MKIV assembly. I don't think it would be too difficult to heat up the support arms and bend them to a solid location for welding to the transmission.

Thanks for the insight on everything. I'll try to document my build to show how it was done (assuming I can pull it off.)

Did you modify the "shift piston" inside the MKIII tailshaft in order to make the MKIV assembly fit?

I got mine in last night and when I went to swap the assemblies out, I noticed that the internals didn't match up.

I'm guessing it's just an issue of swapping the 'collar' that the remote shifter sits inside of out to the updated one. From just a quick glance at the unit tonight, it looks like I need to remove the tail shaft of the transmission to slide the piston forward enough to change out the collars.

Congrats on finishing the build. Seeing your videos makes me even more excited to get mine all sorted out and put in.

Yes and no......if the car is running and I hook up the gear selector from the auto positioned in drive it works, but if I turn the car off it won't start unless I unhook the selector. I need to find a better way to get it to work.

Sounds nasty! Nice work!

Are you adjusting that on the fly somehow?
